Walgreens To Close 2 More CT Pharmacies, Raising Number To 5 Across State

Walgreens has announced it will close two more stores next month as the pharmacy giant continues reducing its footprint across the country.

Walgreens announced it would close its location at 311 E. Main St. Middletown next month. Four more of the pharmacies across the state will shutter in April as well.

The pharmacy chain announced this week it would shut the 311 E. Main St. Middletown store and 1083 Boston Post Road in Milford on April 23, according to its website.

Walgreens previously announced closures in Waterbury, Hartford, and New Haven slated for next month.

Prescriptions from the closing stores will be transferred to nearby Walgreens locations, and customers will receive notifications by mail.

The retailer plans to close 1,200 stores nationwide in 2024 as part of its broader cost-cutting strategy. And Walgreens isn't alone.

CVS is set to close 375 stores across the U.S. this year, while Rite Aid has already shuttered 800 locations since 2023, according to national reports.
